The city's canals, stone bridges, pagodas, and meticulously designed gardens have contributed to its status as one of the top tourist attractions in China. The classical gardens in Suzhou were added to the list of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites in 1997 and 2000.
Master-Of-Net Garden Classical Night Garden Party
Master-Of-Net Garden is one of the four famous gardens in Suzhou, which has also won the title of world cultural heritage site. It is located in the southeast part of Suzhou City. Every year from middle of March to middle of November, there are 8 night shows from 19:30 to 22:00, each program will last for about 10 minutes and the guests can enjoy the shows whenever they join in.
When the night falls, with yellow lights and scarlet palace lanterns outlining the pavilions and platforms along the river, grace and elegancy can be found everywhere in this garden. Actors and actress in ancient theatrical costumes play folk music and folk dancing for the guests in the halls or pavilions, representing a fantastic scene of "One show in one hall, shows changing while guests changing".
Humble Administrator’s Garden
It is the best representative of Chinese classic gardens, with a history of more than 500 years. Shantang Street and Canal Cruise
Shantang Street is located in the northwest of Suzhou. It was one of the streets where trade and culture were most highly developed in Ming and Qing dynasties. The renovated Shantang Street becomes the place which shows the essence of natural views and human landscapes of Suzhou, which is rated as “the miniature of old Suzhou and the window of Wu culture”. The Shantang Street parallels with the waterway. Along the street stand a good many stores and halls with delicate and graceful styles.
A small boat cruise on the canal will bring both impressive scenery along it and peace in mind.
Tongli Ancient Town is located along the bank of Tai Lake and to the east of ancient canal with eight lakes surrounded. It is 80 kilometers away from Shanghai Hongqiao Airport in the east and 18 kilometers away from Suzhou in the north. Tongli is characterized by a large number of architectures in Ming & Qing dynasties, small bridges and residences of outstanding celebrities.
